Anxiety

What is anxiety? And when should we seek help?

Anxiety is a natural human emotion and experience. Have you ever experienced an increase in heart and breath rate or racing thoughts prior to something we are worried about? If you have, that is probably anxiety.

Anxiety can serve an adaptive function, helping us to prepare for important tasks, motivate us to solve problems, and keep us aware of risks in day to day life. But when anxiety tries to take too much control, we may notice struggles with work, relationships, and everyday life.  Even if there is nothing major going on in your life, anxiety can creep into the picture and managing this alone can be highly stressful.

Statistics

According to Beyond Blue, anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia. Approximately 3 million Australians are living with anxiety.

1 in 4 people will experience anxiety at some stage in their life.
