My name is Niki and I am a clinical psychologist, and within my practice I aim to create a warm and welcoming environment where my clients feel accepted and heard.
I work collaboratively to support my clients gain a deeper insight into their life. The therapeutic space is vulnerable and I regularly work with my clients to explore what works best for them, whether it is structured or flexible therapy, or a blend of both.
I have worked with adults from all walks of life within private and public mental health settings, and have a keen interest in working with people experiencing challenges with:
I identify as a “halfie” - half Dutch and half Malaysian, though I spent the majority of my upbringing in China before completing my tertiary studies in Australia. My upbringing has provided me with a lived and holistic understanding around the impact of culture on mental health. If you are interested in working with me, you can expect a supportive, culturally sensitive and collaborative space for yourself, grounded in warmth and curiosity.
Mental health stigma has often been a barrier for people seeking support. I am passionate about shifting this ‘hush-hush’ discourse around mental health, and empowering individuals to embrace their human nature to experience difficulties. You can expect an openness to vulnerabilities and non-judgement within the therapy room.
I strive towards a holistic-based therapeutic practice, supported by evidence-based interventions including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness and Compassion Focused therapy, Emotion Focussed Therapy (EFT) and Motivational Interviewing practices. With each unique individual, I tailor and adapt my therapeutic approach to support everyone’s diverse needs.
Outside of my private practice work, I work as a psychologist at a public mental health service providing psychological support for adults experiencing mental health difficulties in a tertiary setting within a multi-disciplinary team.
I enjoy living an active life style, playing with my cat, spending time with friends and family, and trying the many different culinary experiences that Melbourne has to offer.
